Recognizing LGBTQ+ employees at Hibu

Randall Marcotte – Digital Account Manager

“…always be looking for ways to help the whole team succeed.”

What do you do here at Hibu?

I am a Digital Account Manager.

How long have you been at Hibu? Have you worked in any other departments? Where did you work before Hibu?

I have been with Hibu 4 years this June!  I started as a DSC and spent about a year as a DSC Team Lead before moving to DAM. Before working at Hibu, I worked for DiBruno Bros! (Not that one, the little one in the Comcast Center food court.)

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

I love talking to folks in all different kinds of businesses across the country and hearing how their marketing is help them find success!

If you could give one piece of advice to someone aspiring to get to your position, what would it be?

Stay engaged with the core mission of Hibu and always be looking for ways to help the whole team succeed.

Outside of Hibu, what do you like to do?

Last summer I started growing some peppers in my back “yard” (South Philly) and I haven’t stopped adding plants ever since. I’m currently engaged in an escalating turf war with some local squirrels who think they can just dig around in any old dirt they find.

What’s your favorite local business?

I have a whole slate of local restaurants that I’ve had on rotation since the Before Times. I can’t choose favorites! Shout-outs to Southside Pizza, Rosario’s Pizza, Wolf Street Pizza, China Garden, and Rosy’s Taco Bar!

Stacy Rubel – Digital Product Support Agent

“I really enjoy being able to help people!”

What do you do here at Hibu?

I am a Digital Product Support Agent.

How long have you been at Hibu? Have you worked in any other departments? Where did you work before Hibu?

I have worked with Hibu since 2015 and  have spent the majority of my time with Hibu as a Digital Services Consultant. Before working at Hibu I worked at 1&1 Internet.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

I really enjoy being able to help people.  I really like having the opportunity to find and pinpoint issues a client or a Sales Representative has and being able to offer the support needed to find a resolution.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone aspiring to get to your position, what would it be?

All you need is a good attitude and the desire to help people.

Outside of Hibu, what do you like to do?

I enjoy acting, singing, special FX makeup.  I also enjoy playing the piano and guitar and drawing.  I also have a YouTube channel where I showcase my tarantula hobby, as I am an avid lover an animals and insects.

What’s your favorite local business?

My favorite local businesses are El Burrito, Chikara, & Molly Maguire’s in Phoenixville.

Steven Holter – AVP of Digital Services

“…always remain positive in your attitude and your outlook.”

What do you do here at Hibu?

As AVP of Digital Services I oversee our pre-live Digital Service Consultant team, and post-live Digital Product Support teams. I am also responsible for our small Legacy Print and IYP Customer Service team, and our Sales Support team.

How long have you been at Hibu? Have you worked in any other departments? Where did you work before Hibu?

I just started my 13th year with Hibu this past April (2021).

February 2008, the company was still Yellowbook. I had only lived in Cedar Rapids for a few months, and as way to learn my way around Cedar Rapids (and earn a little extra money) I began working as an independent contractor delivering the Yellowbook phone directory. As the distribution opportunity was winding down in March, I applied for a full time opportunity in Customer Service and started as a CS Inquiry rep in April. I have worked on several different teams over the years, but all within the Operations group – Customer Service, Client Support, and Sales Support.

Before Hibu, I worked for a company called Teleperformance and I was just a month or two shy of my 19th anniversary when I made the decision to relocate to Cedar Rapids to be closer to family. Over that 19 year stretch I had the wonderful opportunity to live or work in 9 different states and spent almost 2 years living and working in the Philippines.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

The most rewarding part of my job is that every day I come to work I have the opportunity to help people and businesses be successful. What I am able to do each day can have a positive impact on so many different fronts. From our Clients and their businesses, to the members of my teams, my peers, my colleagues in other areas within Operations, and our Sales organization. Even our company, Hibu!

If you could give one piece of advice to someone aspiring to get to your position, what would it be?

My advice would be that you have to sincerely believe that you control your own career and your own destiny. There are always going to be obstacles and hinderances in your job, just as there are in life, but it is how you respond, react, and overcome those roadblocks that will set you apart from the rest. You have to always remain positive in your attitude and your outlook.

  • Be a sponge, learn anything and everything that you can.
  • Step up and help anyone and everyone you are able to help, whether it is “your job” or not.
  • Believe in yourself and your abilities – be driven, be confident and be brave

Outside of Hibu, what do you like to do?

Aside from spending time with family and friends, my passion is Slow Pitch Softball. I began playing in the church league when I was 15 and so this is my 35th year playing softball. In my younger days I would play in different leagues 4 nights a week and in tournaments on the weekends. I’m down to just 2 leagues now and a tournament about once a month.

My softball career has been very diverse. I’ve played in Church leagues, Rec. leagues and Competitive leagues. I’ve played on men’s teams, coed teams, and I have played in LGBTQ leagues in Houston, Chicago, Des Moines, and now Iowa City.

In 2018 the Lambda Softball Association of Eastern Iowa (LSA) was formed in Iowa City, to provide an athletic opportunity as well as a safe space where both LGBT and Non-LGBT participants can compete in an environment welcoming and open to the LGBTQ+ community.

I have been a member of the league and organization since the beginning, and this past winter I was elected as the Interim Chairman of the Board.

What’s your favorite local business?

One of my favorite local businesses has to be the Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity Restore right here in downtown Cedar Rapids. Everything is a bargain, I almost always find what I went there to purchase and end up bringing home other gems that I didn’t go there to purchase, and I know the proceeds are going to a very worthwhile organization with a great cause.

Damien Warsavage – Digital Performance Analyst

“Love what you do, but love the people you are doing it with just a bit more.”

What do you do here at Hibu?

I am a Digital Performance Analyst.

How long have you been at Hibu? Have you worked in any other departments? Where did you work before Hibu?

I have been at Hibu since the last day in February 2017 (the 1st day of the rest of my life lol).  I worked as a DSC initially, but even as a DPA, our jobs titles have been updated like 2-3 times now (from analysts, to ACA, now to DPA).  I haven’t left my other jobs after working at Hibu – I currently still am a Japanese/Korean vocal musician (running Asian culture events twice a year), a Youth-Enhanced Certified Recovery Specialist (meaning I can provide information, lived experienced, & referrals to youth & families going through substance use disorder/living in recovery), & I was elected in November 2019 to serve on my hometown school board in Upper Darby – the 1st openly LGBTQ+ person of color elected in Upper Darby School District or Township history.

What’s the most rewarding part of your job?

The fact that I have been able to use customer service lessons taught to me by my managers (Deb, Danielle, Lori, Jason, Jeff, Gina) & parlay that into other facets of my life, including as an elected official.

If you could give one piece of advice to someone aspiring to get to your position, what would it be?

Hibu isn’t about who you know, it’s what you know. Trust your managers will have your back & work just as hard for you as you work hard for them. Love what you do, but love the people you are doing it with just a bit more.

Outside of Hibu, what do you like to do?

I love watching 80s & 90s anime, singing Asian pop music, playing Nintendo Switch, being the best gay Uncle to my nieces & nephews, taking care of my mom at home, & spending time with my husband of 3+ years, Alexander (a fellow nerd ^_^).

What’s your favorite local business?

My favorite “local business” would be the public school system – & my favorite system is the Upper Darby School District. There is so much that goes into running a school system & in the era of charter schools & the inequity therein, public schools like mine have to remain not only competitive, but also be proper stewards of taxpayers dollars without compromising the future of children. Any business that handles investing in the dreams of kids is my kind of favorite local business.

Strive to build and maintain solid relationships with your peers.

Outside of Hibu, what do you like to do?
