Google Update: “Mobile May” website ranking change
On April 21, 2015, Google began automatically testing websites to see if they were truly “mobile friendly.” This “Mobilegeddon” update led to some significant changes to the way Google ranks mobile search results. In fact, if your site wasn’t “mobile friendly” last year, you’ve probably already seen your ranking drop in the mobile search results — and it’s likely to get worse.
Your mobile website design matters more than ever
Now Google is boosting the effect of last year’s mobile update. According to Google’s Webmaster Central Blog:
“[…] Beginning in May , we’ll start rolling out an update to mobile search results that increases the effect of the ranking signal [mobile friendliness] to help our users find even more pages that are relevant and mobile-friendly.”
So if your site still isn’t mobile friendly, it’s going to be even harder to rank well in Google’s search results… which will make it harder for your customers to find you online… and harder for you to succeed on computers, smartphones and tablets.
